Discover how Batory Foods is making strides in sustainability through our commitment to Planet, People, and Partners.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

At Batory Foods, we are committed to protecting our planet and ensuring a sustainable future. While we are early in our sustainability journey, we have made significant progress in building a strong foundation. Looking ahead, we will continue exploring new ways to reduce our environmental impact, prioritize people, and collaborate with like-minded partners to have a positive effect on the world.

Planet: Reducing Operational Waste and Emissions

In 2023, we completed our first comprehensive greenhouse gas emissions inventory, covering Scopes 1, 2, and 3. This allowed us to pinpoint areas for emission reduction. By transitioning to all-electric forklifts and upgrading most of our facilities to energy-efficient LED lighting, we have significantly reduced our energy consumption and emissions.

We have also successfully implemented recycling programs in many of our facilities, significantly reducing the waste sent to landfills. Moving forward, we will continue to upgrade the remainder of our facilities to LED lighting and explore renewable energy options, including installing solar panels on-site or sourcing renewable energy through other means.

People: Prioritizing Safety and Well-Being

At Batory Foods, safety is non-negotiable. Our commitment to safety has driven the transformation of our safety program, making safety an integral part of our daily operations and company culture. In 2023, we transitioned from third-party oversight to an in-house Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) department with three full-time safety professionals, creating a unified, company-wide safety framework tailored to our specific needs.

In addition to safety, we focus on the well-being of our employees through our Be Positively Excellent Program, which covers physical, emotional, occupational, spiritual, financial, social, and environmental well-being. We also introduced our Volunteer Time Off Policy, granting employees two paid days off to volunteer with a non-profit organization of their choice.

Partners: Collaborating for a Sustainable Future

We believe that strong and mutually beneficial collaborations are the key to success. In 2023, we launched our first EcoVadis Supplier Campaign to encourage suppliers to complete the EcoVadis assessment, ensuring that the partners we work with prioritize sustainability. Moving forward, we plan to run this campaign every year to engage more suppliers and have meaningful conversations around sustainability.

We also offer a wide variety of sustainably certified ingredients, including Fairtrade, RSPO, and Rainforest Alliance-certified products. By incorporating these ingredients into our portfolio, we add value not only to our customers’ supply chain but also ensure our commitment to the world around us.

Looking Ahead: Our Future Goals and Initiatives

While we’re proud of the progress we’ve made, we know there’s more work to do. We aim to continue improving focusing on our three pillars, Planet, People, and Partners.
